that sounds a bit “fresh” but it really is one of my favorite little DIY tips of all time! One of my resolutions for 2012 is to blog more. Whether it be a post full of a gorgeous family, a fresh little newborn or just something i love and feel the need to share with you all, my goal is to jam up your inboxes and your facebook timelines with “stuff”, little things i feel like sharing, and this little trick is first on the list!
i get asked alot, how i go about laying out wall displays and how i hang my pictures so quickly (i shoot and hang within 2 days, its a problem i have, im pretty sure its categorized as OCD, don’t judge me). i can NOT take credit for this little tip but i can tell you i use the heck out of it! i dont remeber where i heard it, saw it or when the first time i tried it was, but i have been doing it for as long as i remember.
im ashamed to say that when i hang prints in my own home, i tend to “eyeball” it…alot, ok always. and here is how i do it, with the lipstick trick.
go ahead and grab yourself your picture that you are hanging, a hammer and nail and yes a lipstick.
load that print in there, spritz it clean so its ready to hang and then flip it over and apply your first coat of your favorite shade (it can be any shade, red works well but i couldn’t find my daughters recital vamp red color for this tutorial so i went with whatever i could find and it works all the same.)
don’t be stingy really dip the ONE hanger (or two) that you will be using to anchor the frame to the wall. It should have a decent coating on it.
now take the frame over to where you want it…don’t get right up on the wall just yet, hover around and when your picture is right where you need it, go ahead and place the frame on the wall and press, press HARD (not super human hard but enough to feel that hanger touch the wall.
presto! youve got your spot.
hammer a nail right in there where your lipstick has kissed the wall and hang.
enjoy! you can thank me later when you hear your husband calling with hammer in hand “honey, can you get my lipstick for me!”
